On this episode we are talking all things Dachshund with Harriet Birch. Harriet owns 5 mini shorthaired Dachshunds who you can meet on their instagram account _sausage.squad_. We talk about so many different areas of dog ownership, from living in a happy multi dog household, to breeding dogs and picking the right owners for those dogs.

Verity is one of the judges on the BBC show Pooch Perfect. Today we are talking about how the dogs were kept happy on the set of Pooch Perfect, which was an interesting look behind the scenes. As someone who professes to know nothing about grooming I have learnt so much from Verity's knowledge that she shares with us today to ensure that our dogs are not getting matted leading to severe clips. No matter what breed of dog you have we talk about how to ensure your dog is happy being handled and groomed

When we were put into that first lockdown, before we knew what was coming - Ella took the instagram world (well the dog section of it) by storm with her dog sanity. Dog sanity gave dog owners ideas of simple enrichment games that they could play with their dogs when walking for hours at a time wasn't really an option. In this episode we talk about all things enrichment the why's and the how's, and tailoring enrichment for your dog.

On this podcast we have Sophie White who is a veterinary behaviourist. The relationship between a behaviourist and a veterinary surgeon is integral to behavioural modification. Sophie is in a unique position in that she is both a veterinary surgeon and a qualified behaviourist. In this episode we are discussing the relationship between pain and behaviour and why a veterinary check is vital before embarking on a behavioural modification plan. I could have spoken to Sophie for hours so I'm hoping you enjoy listening to her as much as I did!

Marc Abraham, or Marc the Vet as he is more commonly known, is not only a practising vet but also a broadcaster, author and animal welfare campaigner.

The list of Marc's accomplishments could cover an entire episode on its own, but today we are talking to him about his very successful campaigns around animal welfare, promoting rescue pet adoption and responsible breeding, as well as actively advocating to stop the cruel puppy farming industry.

In todays episode we go through Marc's campaigning journey, resulting in new legislation, known as Lucy's Law which was brought in last year.

This week we are talking to Jo from Positively Canine about a lesser known dog sport: Parkour. Even as someone who works in the industry Parkour was not something I knew a lot about and so understanding how it can help dogs have a more positive outlook on life! We, of course, also discuss how parkour activities can help with socialising a puppy and allowing them to feel more confident about exploring the world.

March is Pet anxiety awareness month so we have a certified clinical animal behaviourist on to talk about how to spot anxiety in your dog. In this episode I talk to Rosie Bescoby of Pet Sense about what anxiety is, how we can spot it in our dogs, and how anxiety differs with each dog that we work with.

Here is Rosies website:

We talk a lot about dog body language on this episode, you might find these references useful:

In this episode we are chatting with Jennifer Billot from Bone Ball Bark who is in the middle of bringing up her new puppy Griffin. We talk all things puppy training - what to focus on, what to worry about, where to go and what to do. Often bringing up a puppy can feel overwhelming knowing where to start and where to put your focus. Hopefully we can unpick some of that today and give you a bit more of a plan!

Over the last year there has been a dramatic rise in people looking to purchase a puppy. Unfortunately there is a dark side to this and that dark side is that more and more puppy scams have appeared.

On this podcast I chat with Laura Short who is a solicitor for a national law firm specialising in dealing with and resolving disputes between individuals.

I met Laura when I trained her adorable puppy Ruby and today we are chatting about the legal side of buying a puppy.

Please note that all advice given in this podcast is just general advice and if you are at all concerned you should consult your own solicitor and take individual advice - these are just ideas that might help you!

In this episode we are preparing our dogs to come out of lockdown. For some of out puppies there are lots of new experiences coming, for some dogs there might be training that has been forgotten and for some of our dogs things are going to feel overwhelming.

We want to start our training now so that we can use the pathway out of lockdown to aid our training plans!

Today on the podcast I am answering some questions I had in on my instagram page: pooches.galore. We are talking everything from picking the right doggy day care for your dog to stealing shoes and travelling in the car! Feel free to ask me anything on instagram and I will compile another list for another podcast! Enjoy!
